Essex Heights Primary School (EHPS) is a mainstream Victorian government primary school for Prep to Year 6 students in Mount Waverley. We welcome your enquiry about the enrolment of your child.
In Victoria, all children are entitled to be enrolled at their designated neighbourhood school as a right under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). Designated neighbourhood schools are generally the public school within closest proximity to the student’s permanent residential address, unless the Minister for Education or Regional Director has restricted the zone of the school. EHPS also has an official enrolment ceiling applied by the Department of Education & Training (DET) due to site capacity.
If EHPS is not your neighbourhood school, enrolment is offered at the discretion of our Principal if there is sufficient capacity onsite and in the required year level, in accordance with DET Placement Policy and our enrolment policy.
Enrolment documentation is submitted in the school year prior to entry. We are currently accepting enrolments for entry in 2021 and 2022. Prep 2022 enrolment is due now, enabling participation in our School Transition Program, and enrolment for entry in Years 1 to 6 in 2022 should be lodged by Thursday 25 November 2021.

Our School Zone
Our school zone is available on the Find My School website (findmyschool.vic.gov.au) which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones. Students residing in the EHPS zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address. The Department provides guidance through the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations. You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School Zones.
Contact our Office to enquire about enrolment in Prep 2021 and Prep 2022.
Planning and preparation for Prep 2022 is well underway. We thank those families who have expressed interest in enrolment at EHPS for their child's start in primary school by lodging their documentation by the end of May. Written advice regarding placement has been issued to all families who lodged an enrolment request.
If your child was born on or before 30th April 2017 and you've not yet enrolled for Prep, contact our Office regarding placement.
Please note that if EHPS is not your designated neighbourhood school, it is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that they have another school selected for Prep entry should a place not be available at EHPS.

Other Important Information
Children not born in Australia or not an Australian Citizen
If enrolment is sought for a child who was not born in Australia or is not an Australian Citizen you may be required to enrol via the International Education Division of the Department of Education & Training, depending on the visa held by the child. Please advise the child's residential status in Australia (permanent or termporary) and the Visa Type and Subclass number and, where defined, the Sector, as advised on the child's Visa Grant Notice when enquiring about enrolment. If your child currently has a Bridging Visa, please also provide the Visa Type and Subclass and, where defined, the Sector, of the visa held immediately prior to the Briding Visa.
Students from language backgrounds other than English are eligible to attend the intensive English program at Blackburn English Language School (BELS) if they are:
The BELS program is two full time terms. We strongly recommend eligible students complete the BELS program, as it is our experience that students will transition more successfully into mainstream primary school. If EHPS is the designated neighbourhood school of the child, then their place at EHPS is guaranteed on completion of the BELS program.
Short Term Enrolment
Children in Australia on a tourist visa (or similar) may be eligible for short term (temporary) enrolment, subject to availability in the required year level. Please note the following:
When enquiring about short term enrolment, please advise:
Most short term enrolments are applied for through the International Education Division (IED). We will advise if this is the case when you enquire about short term enrolment. If application via IED is required, please ensure that you have confirmation from EHPS that a place can be offered before commencing the application process; allow a minimum three months before the enrolment is required for the IED and school enrolment processes.
