Essex Heights Primary School (EHPS), a mainstream Victorian government primary school for Prep to Year 6 students in Mount Waverley. We welcome your enquiry about the enrolment of your child.
In Victoria, all children are entitled to be enrolled at their designated neighbourhood school as a right under the legislation, the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). Designated neighbourhood schools are generally the public school within closest proximity to the student’s permanent residential address, unless the Minister for Education or Regional Director has restricted the zone of the school. EHPS also has an official enrolment ceiling applied by the Department of Education & Training (DET) due to site capacity. If EHPS is not your neighbourhood school, enrolment is offered at the discretion of our Principal if there is sufficient capacity onsite and in the required year level, in accordance with DET Placement Policy and our enrolment policy. Enrolment documentation is submitted in the school year prior to entry. We are currently accepting enrolments for entry in 2021 and 2022. Prep 2022 enrolment is due by Thursday 27th May 2021, and enrolment for entry in Years 1 to 6 in 2022 must be lodged by Friday 26th November 2021. Refer to the DET Enrolment FAQs for more information - CLICK HERE.
Our school zoneOur school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones for 2021 onwards (note: the Find My School is scheduled to be updated in mid March 2021 with amendments to school zone boundaries).
Students residing in the EHPS zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address. The Department provides guidance through the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations. You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones.

A child must be five years of age by 30th April of the year they start primary school to be eligible for enrolment in a Victorian Government School. Students from language backgrounds other than English are eligible to attend the intensive English program at Blackburn English Language School (BELS) if they are:
The BELS program is two full time terms. We strongly recommend eligible students complete the BELS program, as it is our experience that students will transition more successfully into mainstream primary school.
