The Instrumental Music Program has been active at Essex Heights Primary School for the past 30 years.

The program adds a further dimension to the music curriculum available to all students.

Instrumental Music tuition offered at EHPS in 2019:

To enrol in the Instrumental Music Program, complete the enrolment form at the back of the respective handbook and return to the School Office.

Our aim is to:

• Develop a strong technical foundation on an instrument.
• Develop ensemble skills through co-operative learning, social interaction and performance skills.
• Provide a strong motivation for children to continue to engage in music activities throughout Primary and into Secondary School.
• Develop in children, an awareness and appreciation of musical styles and genres.
• Encourage children to strive for excellence.

Why learn an instrument?

• Recent research suggests studdents who play an instrument achieve higher results in other subjects.
• Playing an instrument is fun.
• It teaches discipline and independent learning.
• Playing music gives students a sense of achievement.
• Making music boosts brain power, builds team skills and allows to you express who you are.

Concerts

Throughout the year we hold numerous boutique concerts to encourage our students to perform as soloists and in small ensembles, such as the brass and woodwind concert, the string concert, and the piano & keyboard concert.

Towards the end of the year, the children perform in our annual music Showcase which is held at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University. Showcase is highly anticipated all year, and our students are given the opportunity to display their talents for their families and friends.
