At Essex Heights we run six choirs, so that students of all ages have an opportunity to be immersed in music. Each week we hold a rehearsal for:
Year 1 Choir
Year 2 Choir
Year 3 & 4 Choir
Year 5 & 6 Choir

All students in from Prep to Year 2 are members of a Year Level Choir. When students enter Year 3, they are then able to elect to be in the Year 3 & 4 Choir. When students are in Year 5 or 6 they are able to be a member of Year 5 & 6 Choir, or they may audition to become a member of Chamber Choir. Chamber Choir differs from Year 5 & 6 Choir by the level of commitment that is expected as well as the singing ability of the student. Students in Chamber Choir perform numerous times throughout the year and are therefore expected to rehearse during some of their lunchtimes. Students in Chamber Choir have performed at venues such as Parliament House, Federation Square, Hamer Hall (Victorian Arts Centre), The Glen Waverley Shopping Centre, St Stephen's Church, etc
All choirs have opportunities to perform throughout the year. These performances may be at school at an assembly, for special morning teas or outside school on excursion. Of course, each year all choirs perform on our biggest music night of the year - Showcase! We look forward to seeing the students performing at Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University again this year!
Some of our performances in 2017: competing at the Oxfam Festival, performing at the opening of Woolworths Chadstone in December, and singing carols to residents at Elizabeth Gardens Residential Aged Care in December.
Local Kindergarten Excursion
The Year 5 & 6 Choir members did a fantastic job with the students at St Luke's Kindergarten. They taught songs and actions to the students and then sang together as a large group. To finish the experience, they performed a song to all the Kinder students. What a great day!
Parliament House Performance
The Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development expressly invited our school to perform at Parliament House for the award ceremony of the Waverley Art Competition. Students from Chamber Strings and Chamber Choir impressed the audience as they played/sang one piece each and then performed a song together. Well done to everyone involved!
