Transition to School

Prep

A School Transition Program is offered for our incoming Prep students and their family. The School Transition Program for 2020 Preps comprised:

  • Parent Evening for parents/guardians interested in Prep 2020 enrolment at EHPS in June.
  • 3 Transition Sessions for incoming Preps - September, October and November.
  • Information Evening for parents/guardians of enrolled Preps - November.
  • Orientation Day - December.

Parent Sessions will be held concurrent to the children's transition sessions to discuss topics such as health matters and preparing your child for learning. These are also great opportunities to meet other families with child starting in Prep.

Story Time sessions were held for incoming Preps in July and August, and a Glue & Glitter Art session was held in October.

Start of School in 2020

Term 1 commences on Tuesday 28th January 2020, however this day is a statewide student free day for all Victorian government schools. Each government school is allocated three additional student free days in the school year. The first of these student free days at EHPS is on Wednesday 29th January 2020, therefore, our Years 1 to 6 students will commence on Thursday 30th January 2020.

In the first week of the 2020 school year, Thursday 30th January to Wednesday 5th February, Prep students do not attend school, but are allocated a School Entry Assessment (SEA) interview day and time. The SEA is compulsory and is conducted at school with the child only and is approximately one hour in duration. In summary:

  • School Entry Assessment (SEA) - one hour interview at school with the Prep student scheduled between Thursday 30th January and Wednesday 5th February. Uniform is not required. Students are to bring a water bottle to their SEA interview. SEA interview between the student and the teacher; parents/guardians do not stay.
  • On the first day of school, Thursday 6th February, Prep students have a staggered start between 9am and 10am (specific time advised in the school start letter), and finish at 1.30pm.
  • From Friday 7th to Friday 14th February, Prep students attend school from 8.50am to 2.30pm.
  • From Monday 17th February, Prep students begin attending school full time from 8.50am to 3.30pm.
